Are registry cleaner programs useful? ::
No. Most of these so called registry cleaners are actually
"free scanning" programs. They offer to scan your computer for
free and let you know if you have registry issues. Well, lo and
behold, these programs will find numerous malicious problems and
urgent matters that need your attention. What they have
actually done is loaded programs in your computer that only
their program can remove. Your computer's registry is something
that should be left to professional cleaning.
Do I need more than one protection program? :: Loading more than one internet security or antivirus program is not a good idea. One program will treat the other as a virus and then you will have 2 programs that aren't performing at all. Also having multiple malware removal tools is a bad idea. Find one really good one and stick with it.
Are those free antivirus programs worthwhile? :: For some people these programs are OK. But think about it, why would a company give away a product when they also offer a version for purchase. These programs don't protect you from everything. Use these free security programs at your own risk. If you download anything (music, videos, games, etc) a free program will not protect you.
